The journey through pregnancy is a magical time and there are a lot of wonderful parts to being pregnant. Getting stretch marks however – for me at least- wasn’t one of them.

During my first pregnancy, I developed a lot of stretch marks on the underside of bump and whilst I have grown to embrace them over time, I would like to minimise the chance of getting anymore during this pregnancy. So when I was approached by ‘Secret Saviours’ to try their new product that did just that, I was very excited to give it a try.

What are stretch marks?

So let’s start by talking about what stretch marks are exactly.

Stretch marks are scars left by tearing below the surface of the skin, usually caused by sudden stretching of the skin. They can occur during growth spurts or as a result of rapid weight gain, however they also very commonly develop during pregnancy.

How does Secret Saviours’ product reduce them?

Well, the Secret Saviours team have engineered a unique system that is scientifically proven to help prevent stretch marks developing in the first place or at the very least significantly reduce stretch marks during pregnancy.

The product is split into three complimenting elements, consisting of; a Stretch Mark Support Band, a Day Gel and a Night Cream. The support band works to spread the stresses and strains on the skin which helps prevent the development of stretch marks, whilst the day and night cream keep the skin well moisturised in order to keep skin damage to a minimum.

If the skin tissue does develop a tear, the pads on the support band provide a protective barrier in order to prevent a full stretch mark occurring.

So what did I make of the product?

First of all, I’ll start by saying that although I was eager to try this product, I didn’t actually hold much hope for it actually working. Being under 5 ft means that I develop a rather large bump and so the skin on my stomach has to do a lot of stretching to accommodate my growing baby during pregnancy, which results in lots of stretch marks. However, I thought I’d at least try it and see how I got on.

When my Secret Saviours parcel arrived, I was really impressed. The three items come very well presented in a dainty little box and on the side of every box are clear instructions on how to use each individual part of the product.

You start by massaging the Day Gel onto your bump in a circular motion. It does leave the skin feeling a bit tacky (but not in an unpleasant way) so that the pads on the support band hold in place.

You then put on your Support Band, which has rubber type pads on the inside that work with the Day Gel to ensure it stays securely in place over your bump.

At night you remove the Support Band and massage the Night Cream into your bump and body using a circular motion to moisturise the skin.

Throughout this pregnancy I have really suffered with back and pelvic pain, but the support band actually helped lessen the pain slightly. I found that the Support Band does show under certain items of clothing, which was slightly frustrating, but in the grand scheme of things that isn’t much of an issue. Both the Day Gel and the Night Cream smell wonderful, the night cream in particular is lovely to use and leaves my skin feeling very soft and smooth.

What I will say about the product is that there is only one Support Band per pack and as it can’t go in the tumble dryer, to get it washed and dried does take a couple of days. In those days I noticed that a couple of the stretch marks from my previous pregnancy became a lot more red and noticeable and as my pregnancy enters the last few weeks, one or two new stretch marks (although very faint) have appeared when I haven’t worn the band. However, once I start wearing the band again, these stretch marks do fade considerably. You can buy extra bump supports directly from Secret Saviours.

Overall I have noticed that most of the stretch marks from my previous pregnancy have actually reduced while using this product and I have only developed one or two very faint new ones. I’ve absolutely fallen in love with this product. The Support Band is extremely comfortable to wear, the Day Gel and Night Cream both smell amazing and my skin is really well moisturised and soft. I absolutely love this product, so much so it has made my ‘top 5 pregnancy products’, which means Secret Saviours stretch mark prevention pack comes highly recommended from me.
